Over 1bn mobile IMs sent by subscribers to 3

Subscribers to mobile operator 3 have sent 1bn mobile instant messages since the operator launched the service last year.

Customers were offered access to Windows Live Messenger in August 2006 followed by Yahoo! Messenger this August.

The operator now sees an average traffic level of 100m messages sent each month through the IM clients.

The services offer identical functionality to the PC-based applications, allowing users to see and send messages to their contacts.
