Amazon remains number one etailer

Amazon remains the number one etailer, according to the latest Hitwise Hot Shops list.

Half of the etailers in the top ten list now have physical stores, up from three in May 2006.

The news comes as the measurement company releases a number of trends on the list since it began last year.

Tesco, Play.com and Apple Computer all reside within the top ten online shops, and Amazon remains unchallenged in its number one slot.

Electrical and travel sectors were the most represented, with high street brands such as Comet, and PC World taking slots in the top 50 alongside budget travel services such as EasyJet and Ryanair.

Tesco Direct made an appearance on the list, despite being a relatively new venture, as did Game, Odeon Cinemas and Sainsburys, which claimed the places of Opodo and Tesco Electrical, both of which are among the brands to have dropped off the list.

James Roper, CEO of IMRG, said, "With the internet dominating retail growth and more than £60bn worth of online sales at stake this year, it's surprising that so many of the traditional high street retailers are still failing to appear on the Hot Shops List, because that's where the action is."
