Marks & Spencer launches international online store

Marks & Spencer has launched international product shipping in a bid to reach online sales of £500m by 2010.

International delivery for items from its clothes range and lingerie is now available to customers in countries including France, Germany, Spain, the US and Canada.

nma originally reported in June that the retailer was planning to roll out ecommerce overseas, (nma 5 June) having approached major affiliates to assess shipping to international markets.

Carl Leaver, director of international, Home and Direct, said, "Our decision to deliver internationally provides a significant opportunity for Marks & Spencer, not only to grow sales of our ecommerce business, but to further extend our brand globally."

The retailer, which has more than 600 stores across the UK, recently launched an online wine club and added customer reviews and ratings across its site.

M&S has 285 international stores in 40 territories. In 2001 it retrenched in Western Europe, closing 38 stores across France, Spain and Germany.
