Sky Sports sees highest site traffic in January

Sky Sports claims January was its website's busiest month, attracting more than 13m unique users.

The broadcaster claims people visiting for the latest news about the football transfer window boosted the site's traffic by 26% compared with January 2008.

The number of page impressions recorded also grew by 40% to 5.5bn from the same period last year.

Sky Sports sister site Sporting Life also broke its previous traffic record with 5m unique users visiting the site in January.

Piers Croton, head of networked media at Sky Sports, said, "In January users were particularly drawn by the popular football score centre, with its live photos, customisable scores and online commentary, and also by the round-the-clock transfer window coverage featuring all the latest news and rumours."

In December Sky embedded its online TV service Sky Player into the Sky Sports site as the first step in a series of planned third-party distribution deals.
