European mobile broadband to reach 148m by 2014

Mobile broadband connections in Europe are estimated to leap to 148m by 2014, according to a report by research house Analysys Mason.

It predicted mobile broadband is likely to grow by 4% to account for 5.7% of European operators' revenues over the next five years.

Matt Hatton, principal analyst for Analysys Mason, said, "Operators are desperate to find areas of growth and mobile broadband is one they need to get onto."

He said the growth played an important part in the UK reaching the nationwide broadband connectivity targets set out in the interim Digital Britain report.

"If you want to bridge the digital divide, mobile plays an important part in the delivery of broadband," Hatton said.
