UK online video viewing has grown by 10% over the past year, according to figures from ComScore.

The ComScore Video Metrix service found the online viewing audience reached 29.5m, 80% of the UK online audience, in January.

Google sites once again ranked as the top online video property in the UK with 23.7m viewers (up 14% in the past year), driven by the popularity of YouTube.com, which accounted for 99% of all videos viewed on UK Google sites.

BBC websites ranked second with 6.8m viewers, followed by Microsoft sites (4.3m viewers), Facebook.com (3.6m viewers), and Yahoo! sites (3m viewers).

The figures revealed 4bn videos were viewed online in the UK in January 2009, of which just 2.5% (99.5m) were watched on the websites of the top five TV broadcasters: the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, 5, and Sky.

The majority of videos viewed onTV broadcaster sites were on BBC sites, which has a 54.7% share, followed by Channel 4 (23.8%), ITV sites (13.6%), Sky sites (6.8%) and Five.tv (1.1%).
