LONDON - Bing, the new search engine from Microsoft, is continuing to increase market share two weeks after launch, according to a report by comScore.

Bing: performing well in the US so far

Bing: performing well in the US so far

Bing, backed by a $100m marketing campaign stateside, has increased its popularity with US searchers by three percentage points when compared with its pre-launch stats.

The search engine reached 16.7 per cent of US searchers in the week commencing 8 June, up three points when compared to week commencing 25 May.

It's share of all search results increased to 12.1 per cent compared to 9.1 per cent ahead of launch, reports comScore.

The US remains the best barometer of how Bing is performing as that is the only region where the launch has been backed by a marketing campaign. Any measures of how Bing is performing in the UK will be best conducted towards the end of 2009 when Microsoft will extend its marketing activities to Europe.

Mike Hurt, senior vice-president at comScore, said that things are looking up for Bing.

"It appears that Microsoft Bing has continued to generate interest from the market for the second consecutive week," said Hurt. "These early data reflect a continued positive market reaction to Bing in the initial stages of its launch."
