The BBC has signed deals with The Guardian, Telegraph, Daily Mail and Independent to share online video content.

The newspapers can select BBC news content from four areas – UK politics, business, health and science/technology – and embed it across their sites.

The BBC said it will ultimately allow acess to all of its video news on BBC Online.

Mark Byford, deputy director general and head of journalism at the BBC, said, "We set out our intention to open up access to BBC news content as part of the Digital Britain process. We regard this initiative as a core part of the BBC's working more effectively as a public service partner, with other media organisations utilising BBC news content."

The news clips are free and will appear in a BBC-branded player om the newspaper sites.

"We hope this wider distribution will extend audience reach for BBC content," added Byford.

Emily Bell, director of digital content at Guardian News & Media, said, "We're always keen to give our online readers as much information and content as possible to help them explore news stories, so we're delighted to be collaborating with the BBC on this initiative."

Jimmy Leach, editorial director at Independent.co.uk, said the partnership adds to the roster of news companies providing content for publishers. "We've never pretended that we do video in-house, so its just an extension of what we already do," he said.

Guy Ruddle, head of visuals at Telegraph Media Group, said, "We've been waiting for the BBC to start sharing its content with us and this is definitely a step in the right direction in promoting partnerships."

As part of a phased approach, the BBC plans to offer the same video news content to other UK news sites.
